92 Years Old And Finishes A Marathon

Did you break a sweat running up a flight of steps today? Did you get winded trotting from your car to the store yesterday? Then consider this your official wake up call.

A 92-year-old cancer survivor has rocked her way into the record books, becoming the oldest woman to finish a marathon.

Harriette Thompson of Charlotte, North Carolina, completed Sunday’s Rock ‘n’ roll Marathon in San Diego in a little more than 7 hours and 24 minutes.

Marathon spokesman Dan Cruz says she looked strong at the finish. What Cruz failed to mention is that she also looked good doing it, making her way across the finish line while sporting a huge smile.

This latest event is Thompson’s fifteenth marathon and, as you can see in the video above, which shows her in training mode, part of her success is likely due to her exceedingly sunny disposition.

The oldest woman to previously complete a marathon was Gladys Burrill, who was 92 years and 19 days old when she finished the 2010 Honolulu Marathon.

Thompson is 92 years and 65 days old, according to race organizers.
